Canon might be gearing up to announce the Canon 50D which would be an update of the Canon 40D. Or at least that’s the buzz around the internet.
There’s been some sites saying that it’s coming.
Since Canon have just announced the 12MP 450D and not an update to the venerable 5D, a lot of people are still hoping for something else at PMA next week.
Current favourite on DPR is for a new model, a ’step up’ from the 40D. Have a ramble through this DPR thread for more… 
Nikon did a quick update with the D40X, so why not an EOS40DN with the improved AF, the 12MP sensor and the contrast detect AF, from the 450D
If you look through previous Canon release strategies you’ll notice that all new stuff tends to get announced on the same day some time Jan/Feb or Aug/Sept.
If it does come out it will probably be a welcomed edition to the mid-ranged SLR family.
