Going Biking: Nikon’s new ad campaign

Posted on 13 February 2008 by Brandon

In an effort to promote their new D3 camera, Nikon has come up with some pretty impressive ads demonstrating the camera’s ability to capture action at high speeds. Just how fast did the D3 go? Motorcycle road-racing fast. We hope you brought your helmet.

The new ad was shot at Brainerd International Raceway and has a rider on a Superbike “scraping” around a corner. Which in road-racing meaning that the rider is leaning over to make a corner turn and the peg on the side of the bike is hitting against the pavement creating sparks.

Lets just say it’s a cool shot.

Nikon was apparently going for was to show just how well the D3 picks up extremely high speed objects. I think they’re just trying to make all of us speed freaks out there go crazy. According to motorcycleusa.com

“The photo was taken by Nikon Pro Sandro. Like South American futbol players, we assume Sandro goes by one name. The Nikon ad details the challenge proposed to the seasoned photographer.”

A photographer with only one name? You know he has to have talent then. How many people do you know go by one name? And don’t count Chuck, the dude that hangs around the Bus Station after 11 p.m. asking for spare change.

Judging from the shot Sandro had to be position pretty close when these bikes came roaring by at a pretty fast clip. The guy is probably much braver than the rest of us, I think I would have gone for the artsy silhouette shot from afar.
