Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Reviewed

PC Magazine took a look at the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS, which is the new cousin of the nicely-recieved SD1000 (You can see people are very creative with naming cameras).

While the SD1000 was PC Magazine’s editor’s choice, the SD1100 falls just short of its predecessor. The wide angle lens on the camera isn’t quite as wide as the SD1000, and the image quality isn’t as good.

“How do you make the perfect follow-up to an already excellent camera? It ain’t easy. Our current Editors’ Choice winner, the Canon PowerShot SD1000 has a new sibling in the SD1100 IS, and not much has changed in the newcomer. The SD1100 IS ups the resolution to 8 megapixels from 7, has a slightly better LCD, and adds image stabilization technology. It has also been redesigned with a more curvaceous body, which comes in five new colors. At the same time, like its predecessor, the camera takes outstanding photos and is small enough to fit into a shirt pocket. I had high hopes that the SD1100 IS would supplant the SD1000 as our Editors’ Choice, but the new version doesn’t quite measure up. Although its images are better than those of almost all other cameras in its category, including the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 and the Fuji FinePix Z10fd, they fall short of those of the SD1000, which produces sharper image quality and has a wider wide-angle lens.”

You can read the full review here. The SD1100 retails for a nice $250.
