A look at the Nikon D60

If you’re thinking about buying the Nikon D60, check out what people have been saying about the camera body.

ABC News enjoys the entry-level camera but also questions what regular point-and-shoot photographers will do with the powerful SLR.

“The D60 has the same (nicely compact) body, the same (well-designed) controls, the same (solid) build — in fact, if you don’t notice the small silver nameplate on the right front of the camera, you may not realize you’re holding a newer model.

So what’s different? A bunch of bells and whistles inside.

The D60 automatically cleans dust from its sensor — an ongoing issue with SLRs, which, unlike point-and-shoot cameras, one opens frequently to change lenses.”

ABC News apparently likes what they see in the Nikon D60.

Trusted Reviews gave the camera a seven out of ten, and was very impressed with the image quality of  the D60.

“Pictures from the D60 impress, with a lovely smooth tonality and crisp punchy colours. Contrast is generally good, while the Active D-Lighting quickly takes care of those that need a little help to achieve their best. Exposures are generally good, though occasionally the camera underexposes by a quarter to half a stop, especially if there’s a lot of brightness in the image such as a bright sky. This can easily be monitored if you use the histogram function in playback to check your shots, while shooting in Raw format easily lets you correct them without sacrificing quality.”

Here is Trusted Reviews in-depth look at the D60.

Nikon D60 FrontBloomberg raved about the way the camera handles itself in low light.

“It handled low-lighting conditions pretty well, thanks to a feature called Active D-Lighting, an image-enhancement function that can automatically adjust exposure and bring out details in shadows. My images showed some improvement, with decent dynamic range and fairly balanced exposure. Overall, photos turned out great, with good color and detail.”

Bloomberg enjoyed the entry-level D-60 very much.

So it seems that across the board that the D60 has impressed loads of people with its image quality. Even though it is just an entry level camera, anyone looking to get serious about photography should take a look.
