Pentax Optio V20 Reviewed

It’s not flashy, but it gets the job done.

Sporting a 5x zoom, face detection technology and panorama mode, the Pentax Optio V20 has a lot going for it. But the point-and-shoot won’t weigh you down with a plethora of options, which might be a good thing. Here’s the review from Register Hardware:

It’s not brash and it won’t confuse you with overly complex menus and countless bells and whistles, and that’s not a bad thing. We’re not convinced that the enhancements to standard Face Detection technology deliver the goods, but you at this price point, it’s still well worth a close look.

Pentax Optio V20

Here are some more stats from Pentax:

8.0 megapixels

The V20’s 8.0 megapixel CCD captures large, detailed images, which can be printed as 8 x10 inch enlargements (and larger) in clear resolution with impressive image quality.

5X optical zoom

The impressive 5X optical zoom is contained in a compact, lightweight body.

3.0 inch LCD screen

The generous 3.0 inch, wide-view (approx. 170 degrees) LCD screen makes both capturing and reviewing images easy.

Advanced Face Recognition

With Advanced Face Recognition technology, the camera automatically recognizes and quickly captures up to 15 faces, so every face is bright and focused, even in backlit areas.

Smile Capture and Blink Detection

Smile Capture recognizes the precise moment a subject smiles, and releases the shutter automatically, and Blink Detection gives an alert to retake the pictures if anyone’s eyes are closed.

PENTAX Digital Shake Reduction

PENTAX Digital Shake Reduction mode reduces camera shake and blurring of the subject when photographing still images. At up to ISO 6400, trust the V20 for accurate, blur-free photos.

Movie Shake Reduction

Movie Shake Reduction is also available to steady your video captures.

PENTAX Auto Picture mode

PENTAX Auto Picture mode automatically selects from 6 shooting modes for the best picture in any situation.

Panorama mode

Panorama mode automatically stitches a series of three images conveniently into one wide 180-degree scene.

Auto Macro mode

The V20’s Auto-Macro mode allows for detailed close-up photography, without having to manually set Macro Focus mode.

As we all know, brash is bad. If you’d like to get the full review head on over to Register Hardware.
