New wave of Canon 50D rumors
Canon Rumors posted today that a new source is “claiming great knowledge” that the 40D will be replaced with a 14-megapixel, 1.6x camera—the 50D. That posting comes on the heels of an announcement on a British commercial photography Web site saying it had received a message detailing those same basic specs for the 50D.
The site also mentioned improved weather sealing, a better screen and “appreciably better noise performance than the 450D sensor.” The 450D is Canon’s top entry-level digital SLR in the Rebel series.
The British company, Northlight Images, has been cataloging the 40D’s price drop, noting that U.S. rebates on the camera ended July 20 and that the camera sells on Amazon.com for the rebated price.
The 40D’s official listed price at usa.canon.com is $1,299. The camera—body only—is currently listed on Amazon.com for $974. Meanwhile, posts from European consumers on various forums describe a similar 40D price drop there.
Canon Rumors has given its recent posting a credibility rating of “CR3,” which according to the site’s rating system is a “believable rumor, from a source with average credibility.”
