Nikon D90 announcement on Aug. 27?

Photography Bay is claiming that it has “rock solid” information that Nikon will announce the new D90 on Aug. 27, when Nikon’s next press conference is scheduled, citing a report from photographer/blogger Thom Hogan.
How do we think this stacks up against what we already know? Fairly well.

We’ve already seen the D90 listed as for sale at a French dealer, we’ve seen tips from employees at both Best Buy and Circuit City claiming it’s in the inventory, and we’ve seen a fairly authentic-looking (if not fully revealing) photo of the officially unannounced new camera body.

Blogger Ken Rockwell predicts the camera will be announced this week, though Nikon Rumors sticks with an Aug. 27 release date, also citing a Swedish source claiming that Nikon would have “something new” on Aug. 28.

Rockwell says the camera will likely come with an 18-105mm Vibration Reduction (VR) lens. Check his posting out here.
