Canon and Maria Sharapova unveil $12,000 Powershot SD1100 IS
It looks as though Canon has teamed up with tennis great/pinup gal Maria Sharapova to market the Canon SD1100 IS, which was already a great camera but is now perhaps slightly cooler in some cases since the addition of, uh, diamonds. Some might not consider the addition of 88 diamonds, which jack up the price of the SD1100 IS to about $12,000, to be entirely necessary. Others who spend more time thinking might term this latest alteration a “shockingly frivolous waste.”
But all of those people would still agree on one point: It would be sweet to win one of the five diamond-encrusted point-and-shoots. That’s right–not all of the SD1100’s are going to have diamonds. Just five, and you can enter to win one through the Powershot Web site. Just click on “Maria’s Diamonds.”
There’s really no telling whether they’re Maria’s diamonds, by the way. So what, specifically, does Ms. Sharapova have to do with it? Well, she happens to be the Powershot spokesperson, of course, so she unveiled the cameras at the Canon Center Court event on Aug. 20.
Happy drooling. Heaven knows there’s plenty to drool about here.

I think Maria and Canon should give the money to a charity in need. I for one think it is selfish to keep it for them selfs. Maybe they should use the money to adopt a Forrest or something?!
