Canon 50D officially released

Canon 50D officially released

Canon has formally announced the 50D–to be released for sale in October–and specs posted on the official Canon USA sight confirm many of the rumors that had been circulating about the prosumer upgrade to the 40D.

As anticipated, it’s a 15.1-megapixel camera with a DIGIC 4 processor and a beefed up ISO (up to 12,800) for increased shooting in low light settings. The camera boasts a three-inch LCD screen, live view with “Face Detection Live” mode, HDMI output, a built-in sensor cleaning system and a “Lens Peripheral Illumination Correction” setting to “automatically even the brightness across the image.”

Word is this puppy’s going to retail for just $1,400.

At first blush, the 50D doesn’t appear to have many of the hoped-for weatherproofing features, but it’s got plenty more going for it.
