Link of the day: Satellite photo wallpapers

You can never have too many options in the way of desktop photos, and one self-proclaimed “underground blog” that has figured that out is offering bird’s-eye views of locations like the Bahamas, Libya and Louisiana.

Check out www.earthwallpapers.org for a fine array of images snagged using Google Earth. Google allows the use of images taken from its program for personal use on Web sites or blogs, and since these are free and whoever put the site up isn’t claiming ownership of any kind, he should be pretty much in the clear.

Nonetheless, he has a note on his site begging the Web search giants not to bring down the hammer: “Please don’t shut me down, Google!”

On a side note, it’s important to remember that satellite images taken through U.S. Government projects such as Blue Marble or World Wind are free for you to use however you darn well please, including in commercial projects.
