Want to shoot NASCAR? Check out the Auto Racing Photography Seminar at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on October 24

LAS VEGAS - A one-day auto racing educational photography seminar will be conducted on October 24 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The seminar offers photo enthusiasts an opportunity to create racing pictures from restricted areas at the 1.5-mile super speedway where the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series, and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events are held, and 3/8-mile bullring where the NASCAR Weekly Series competes.

Seminar tutorial sessions begin with basic photographic techniques and include detailed technical instructions in actual trackside racing environments, low light automobile photography, equipment requirements, plus valuable information regarding copyright and getting published.

Seminar instructor, David Allio is the chief track photographer at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and has been a working professional motorsports photographer since 1974. During his 34-year award-winning career, Allio photographs have appeared in the pages and on the cover of nearly every sports publication in the world. In March, 2008, his photograph of race winner Carl Edwards led the Sports Illustrated coverage of the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Recent publication credits outside of the mainstream motorsports media also include ESPN Magazine, The Sporting News, and USA Today, and the book “ESPN Ultimate NASCAR 100 Defining Moments in Stock Car Racing History.”

“This is a ‘How To’ instructional program for auto racing photography enthusiasts interested in improving their photographic skills. Seminar participants are allowed to create race car photos from the same trackside areas as working professionals,” Allio said. “Several of the current LVMS photo staff members were discovered through these at-the-track workshops and seminars.”

This one-day motorsports digital photography program runs concurrently with the Richard Petty Driving Experience and qualifying for the Fall Classic on The Bullring at LVMS. Participants must be at least 18 years old and have a digital single lens reflex camera. Advance registration is required. Student discounts area available.

Participants may find more information and register online at Allio’s Web site.

I have attended two of the workshops at Las Vegas taught by David Allio (as well as a third in Hickory, N.C.). You will come away with so much information and have so much fun learning it that you will not want to leave. Five years ago I was on a pit crew of a local Late Model Stock race team and taking photos as a hobby, now I am in the middle of an 8 week run where I will attend 10 races in two states (including 2 of the largest Super Late Model races in the country). My photos are now published on a regular basis in racing publications.
If you want to simply improve your photography skills or are looking to do this professionally you have to catch one of these workshops. I have never meet someone who is so knowledgable and is willing to share every bit of it.
