PhotoShelter looking to capitalize on Digital Railroad’s potential downfall?

Submitted by Steven on Monday, 20 October 2008No Comment

PhotoShelter CEO Allen Murabayshi told a reporter from Photo District News that his photo hosting company is hoping to attract customers from Digital Railroad, which released a statement last week indicating it was in dire financial straits.

Murabayshi told the magazine that PhotoShelter would probably announce within the next few days specials for Digital Railroad patrons who choose to emigrate from the hosting service there as rumors circulate that the company could be on the verge of liquidation.

Murabayshi also commented that a merger with the company or acquisition of Digital Railroad’s customer base were both “certainly plausible.”

Seattle-based Digital Railroad confirmed last week that they had “initiated a reduction in staff and expenses” after a recent search failed to yield funding the company needed to “sustain its current level of operations.” The company has received $15 million in funding since 2004 and hosts millions of images for sale on its Marketplace.
