Panasonic releases four new point-and-shoot cameras

Panasonic announced today the release of four new compact cameras in their Lumix line with sensors ranging from 8.1 megapixels to 12.1 megapixels, and several come equipped with f/2.8 lenses.

Pricing information wasn’t immediately available for the cameras–the Lumix DMC-LS85, DMC-FS7, DMC-FS6 and the DMC-FS15–but several are expected to be “budget level.”

8.1-Megapixel LUMIX DMC-LS85 Powered by AA Batteries

with 4x Optical Zoom Bright F2.8 Lens*

Panasonic is pleased to introduce the new 8.1-megapixel DMC-LS85 camera that runs on AA batteries featuring ultimate ease of use with iA (Intelligent Auto) mode as a successor to the LS80. Apart from conventional AA battery operation cameras, DMC-LS85 boasts powerful 4x optical zoom and bright F2.8 high quality LUMIX DC VARIO lens (equivalent to 33mm to 132mm on a 35mm film camera).

The iA (Intelligent Auto) mode, which comprises various shooting-assist functions, has been newly incorporated in the LS85. This mode comprises of four major functions, MEGA O.I.S., Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector and Face Detection. MEGA O.I.S. suppresses hand-shake and Intelligent ISO Control prevents motion blur. The Intelligent Scene Selector sets the appropriate scene mode by automatically selecting it from the most frequently used scene modes, such as Portrait, Scenery, Macro, Night Portrait and Night Scenery. The Face Detection system detects human faces to set the focus and appropriate exposure for them automatically. Also, the Quick AF system allows the camera to keep focus on the subject even without pressing a shutter button halfway, to get best result out of a shutter chance by minimizing the AF time. Once you enter iA mode just pressing an dedicated button on top of the camera, these multi-capable functions happen automatically. So you can shoot without the bother of adjusting settings every time conditions change.
