PMA 2009: Canon announces more firmware to fix 1D Mark III AF problem
Canon has announced yet another firmware update for the EOS 1D-Mark III and the EOS 1Ds-Mark III that the company says should rectify the oft-discussed autofocus problems with those cameras.
The Mark III’s autofocus dilemma has been frequent fodder for online forums and the photography blogosphere.
Canon acknowledged the problem–which seems to occur when an AF point other than the center point is used, and particularly during high temperatures–and apologized for it.
“We offer our sincerest apologies to customers using these products who have been inconvenienced by this issue,” the company said in a statement posted on its Web site. “Canon always strives to provide the highest quality products to our customers, and we spare no effort in our quality management to make sure our customers can use our products with confidence. We hope our efforts will earn your understanding.”
