A reliable source at a Canon dealership in California tells us that we can expect a Canon 5D replacement announcement–whether it be the 5D Mark II, the 7D or the 9D–by the end of this month.

New information is circulating about the specs on the 7D, the supposed replacement to the full-frame 5D, and the wholly unconfirmed word on the street is that it might be a 21-megapixel camera.

Will Canon upgrade its full-frame 5D? It has been around for a while, it would make perfect sense and there have been plenty of 7D rumors before, but this automatically translated version of a French site purporting to have new Canon 7D info might not be the bedrock of truth on the matter.

Canon Rumors posted today that a new source is “claiming great knowledge” that the 40D will be replaced with a 14-megapixel, 1.6x camera—the 50D. That posting comes on the heels of an announcement on a British commercial photography Web site saying it had received a message detailing those same basic specs for the 50D.

Well it looks like people are stirring the pot of imagination again, but this stew may have a splash of truth in it. I suppose we will all have to wait and see.
